Stupid question about license...

I no longer get to use Pro/e here at work. I am required to suffer through AutoCAD 2D, but I still use Pro from time to time to work out complex shapes. Plus all of our drawings for the last 3+ years are in Pro...

However, we recently had some network problems and after they were fixed I can no longer access Pro. I didn't set it up, and the guy who did is no longer with the company. I am the only person here who knows anything about it, and my knowledge is limited, and there's no chance of them sending me to any classes...

So, when I try to open just Pro/e I get an error saying
"License request failed for feature PROE_714899: -97:

The desired vendor daemon is down

etc..."

This is the only PC using Pro/e. We run a peer to peer network, and have recently got a server, but it's just running on the peer to peer for the moment...

Please help...

The PC running Pro/E cannot find the server that it is looking for with the FlexLM server daemon running.
Track down the license file and see how FlexLM is 'assigned' to your company. It could be by a dongle/hardware key, IP address or most likely the NIC card address. If the existing license used the NIC, and you now have a new server, it has a different address and you will need to get a new license file from PTC IF you are still on maintenance.

-97 error code is as follows:

The desired vendor daemon is down.
1) Check the lmgrd log file, or 2) Try lmreread.

There is data on PTC's website regarding Flexlm or you can download the user guide.

So, what can I do if my NIC address has changed and I no longer have maintenence? Can I change the NIC address within the license file, since it's only a txt file?
 
Okay, I don't think that's the problem. I just pulled the old PC out of the storage room, plugged it in, and Pro/e works just fine...

?
 
Does the old PC need to be on the network for Pro/E to work?
If so, try running ptcsetup from the Pro/E install bin directory on the new PC and ensure that it refers to the same server as your old PC.
 
Our Pro/E licenses are specific to the pc they were installed on. I am told that to move it to another pc, the license must be sent back an rewritten to the new pc. At a significant cost of course.
 
You could probably take the NIC card from the old PC, put it in the new one and hey presto. The license is usually tied to the NIC card.
