Does anyone know of individual units that can be bought for trial purposes other than those on the bottom of most outboard engines which seem to have a reduction ratio more like 2:1

Thanks

How many HP, and what rpm? Would a propellor be involved, and would the outbard prop be suitable? Could A 2-1 belt drive for the input be cobbled up?

If you can using an electric motor there are several options for gearmotors for the input here -
It also mentions "ratio multipliers" "available in cast iron with ratings to 20 HP and ratios from
2:1 to 7.5:1."

HP = 10
RPM = 1500-2000
It would be 1000x more ideal if the gearboxes was able to engage and disengage without the need for a clutch. I have been looking at bevel gearboxes but most are very heavy duty and what I want is light and efficient.
