Submersible pump cable for deep well water pump

We have deep well water pumps (well depth around 80 - 90 ft) at our plant. When using the submersible cable, the OEM recommends that the cable be submersed in water always during operation. However, part of the cable is always not submersed (at near the top of the well). Is this dangerous for the cable? What is the solution for this?

Talk with a manufacturer's rep! It's almost always worth it! I say that as an encouragement to make those kinds of connections and learn from those kinds of people.

That simple "keep submerged" recommendation may or may not be an indicator that your application is a good one for the cable you're using. Older cable jacketing that was really good at excluding moisture sometimes suffered "dry rot" in warm, dry environments, so a well head in a hot room is always trouble. If you have such an instance, you might put a "drueller" up high in the well column to moisten that cable frequently, or at least as often as the pumps run. This was particularly true of rubber-like jackets. Other jackets may stiffen and crack from heat, but perform very well further down the column. I've worked with some products from both Southwire and General Cable recently that really surprised me with their characteristics which used to be unavailable and even seemingly unattainable.
