Submodelling error

Dear group,

We are carrying out submodelling of components using ABAQUS 6.4.1 under windows 2000. Our global model has 120,000 elements and 90,000 DOF; the submodel has approximately the same number of DOF and elements. The global and submodel is comprised of C3D10M elements.

We are receiving a 'strange' error message (ABAQUS are stumped as well), but thought it was worthwhile finding out whether anyone here has come across this. The error message (which, incidentally does not appear in the msg file, only interactively in the DOS window) is:

ABAQUS Error: The executable C:\ABAQUS\6.4-1\exec\standard.exe
aborted with system error "Access is denied.
" (error code 5).
Please check the .dat, .msg, and .sta files for error messages if the files
exist. If there are no error messages and you cannot resolve the problem,
please run the command "abaqus job=support information=all" to report and
save your system information. Use the same command to run ABAQUS that you
used when the problem occurred. Please contact your local ABAQUS support
office and send them the input file, the file support.log which you just
created, the executable name, and the error code.
ABAQUS/Analysis exited with errors

The global model runs fine, but the above error occurs when the submodel is run. Other smaller benchmark submodels have been run and work fine, hence it appears that size may matter here(!). I haven't included any detailed model info here becasue I believe the error may not lie in the model itself, but I'll be glad to be proved wrong.

Check to see if there are any .loc files hanging around from previous failed runs under that name. These can prevent a job from running.

Corus - This was mentioned by ABAQUS, but having checked there are no .loc files around.

Check the memory settings in the .env file as a check.

Incidentally, error messages won't appear in the .msg file unless the input has been checked and the job is ready to solve. Error messages may appear in the .log file. The .dat file won't exist if it's a run problem. If the .dat file does have some information but is incomplete then you've ran out of space.

As a final check, make sure that your .env file points to the correct place for the licence file. This occurs because people in IT get bored and move things around. If you're not seeing the licence file then the job will abort.

i'm having the same problem in running abaqus with a user's defined subroutine. the model it a testbed and it's very small in terms of dof's.
i have already compiled the fortran subroutine with visual compaq compiler v6.0 the only problem is that i can't access the standard.exe program...

the fortran object file is correctly linked to abaqus, the input file has no errors but the analysis doesn't run!
it seems to me it's a windows problem but i'm not sure.

does any of u have any clue?

It could also be an error in the subroutine itself, but that's a guess.
