Hello Everyone!

Could anyone please help me on how to design suction heater? I have a Bitumen tank for which i have to design a suction heater on tank outlet. Temperature to be maintained in tank is 150 C. and the temp gradient for heater is 5 C/hr. Hot Oil is being used for heating, inlet temp of HO is 230 C and outlet is 210 C.

20inch size for suction heater and tube size(for HO) is 4inch. I tried doing it on htri but thats not taking the case of one end open. I kept Shell nozzle size same as shell dia and chose side entry in shell but I am getting error.

One more thing, in normal STHE design, shell is exposed to atmospehere so that heat transfer doesn't come in picture but here it will be immersed in liquid so there will also be heat transfer between the shell and the outer fluid.

Please let me know if additional data required.

Waiting for reply.

Thanks.

A sketch would be helpful to visualize this.

Good luck,

Technically, the glass is always full - 1/2 air and 1/2 water.
