Hi all.
We have recently switched to 3D modeling, etc. using Inventor 9 and Vault 4.0.
We have a client who requires (for now), step files of our 3D assemblies for FEA. The problem is this:
We get numerous messages from them about parts / assemblies being not modeled correctly, sometimes not constrained properly, sometimes floating out in space, sometimes not centered, etc.
There is a very real possibility that this is entirely our fault, and that is the drive behind this post.
We are looking for ANY comments/suggestions you more experienced users may have with regard to QC in 3D modeling.
I am currently the engineer (read: model checker) who has 2 Inventor modelers (junior mechanical designers) building the models for me. They check their own work as much as possible, and then I go over the 3D models on their station, or using DWF Viewer to catch any errors, etc.
The current setup is NOT working. (could be the lack of sleep for 5 months due to the newborn, etc) or other things. We issue way too many errors in our 3D step files. We have not begun generating the 2D part / assy drawings, but this is around the corner. It may be that as we generate some 2D, some of these errors would become more apparent - maybe...
What process do you suggest to enable us to provide better technical content & quality?
I am certain that our level of quality was higher on Acad with more senior mech. designers (previous setup), except for the usual %^$(&%$^& dimlfac errors...
Thanks in advance,
tg
