Hello guys,

I would like to start a doctorade, but I am not sure about the theme. I work with finite element analysis (implicit and explicit) in componentes of transmission for vehicles, would be great if the theme follows this activities.

Could you please help me with suggestions?
I thought about fatigue in surface gear, but there a lot of thesis with this theme.

Thank you,
Henry

Am I the only one who is clueless as to what a doctorade is???

Isn't it an electrolyte replacing drink for medical professionals?

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand

I assume that's "doctorate".
I went into grad school straight from undergrad, and one of the results is that I didn't really have a good project I wanted to pursue. Having been working for umpteen years, I do occasionally run across little technical problems that would be worth looking at in some details, but that I don't have time for- but not in your field. If you are currently working full-time, your best ideas are likely to come from problems you encounter in your work. If you have other engineers doing similar work, check with them.

You know what would be really great? A gearbox/transmission that generates the same output torque regardless of which ratio is chosen...

Henry26 - how about expanding your question / ideas a little further.

It is a capital mistake to theorise before one has data. Insensibly one begins to twist facts to suit theories, instead of theories to suit facts. (Sherlock Holmes - A Scandal in Bohemia.)

Oh... I didn't mean that it slips. In "conventional" transmissions, torque output goes down as you move upward through the gears. It would be great if he can design one that maintans that initial torque output through all the gears. [frog]

That would violate quite a few laws.

Please don't discourage him! Such laws may not apply. Don't worry, Henry! I believe in you! We can OVERcome many obstacles through UNITY!

Typically your advising professor determines what you're working on... you can suggest a topic that might be of interest to him, but in the end he decides.

Yeah, I agree with MacGyver2000, although there are exceptions such as people of the same caliber as Einstein who could have received several PhD's for his work.
