I have made a program for moment distribution analysis of continuous beams. The program is working fine as i have cheked against a no. of worked out examples in text books.
Now i need to make some parametric study bur nothing seems to be coming to my mind. Can anyone throw some suggestion. Will be much obliged!!

In case a closed form formulation exists, the parametric study is directly such formulation on the variables. In reality, any deterministic structural analysis is such closed (if giant) form formulation, and we might think of our structural design softwares such way.

However your aim may be something simpler, so state spans of joists and beams in accord with some schedules, and the loads, and then record moments, shears etc...then establish correlation between the moments, shears or corresponding reinforcement schemes etc with the originating spans in any direction.

You mean that i alter the spans in the increasing order keeping the loading constant and record moments, shears at generic sections?
i.e. first suppose there is a three span continuous beam first span is say "a"(metres), second span "b" (metres) and third span "c" (metres). Now keeping second and third span constant i increase first span "a+x","a+1.1x"----- and so on and record moments, shears. Is this is what you meant??Or simultaneously alter all the spans and record moments, shears.

Normally you systematize what kind of search you are interested in. You may for example establish that in no case any beam will be less than 1/5 in length than the average, or the biggest etc. Or if you want, you devise an intelligent set of parameters that define the field of what you are to study.

Was the case for example just a continuous beam loaded uniformly on a per span basis, a typical input could be 2 vectors holding -in correspondence to each span in the continuous beam- one the load and and the other the span, and you could have as typical output vectors giving the corresponding moments and shears at 0.0L, 0.1L...1.L stations.

These then you could chart in convenient ways to see what is the variation, magnitude etc.

It is just an example.

Sir,
I have not followed of the first para you mentioned:
"In case a closed form formulation exists, the parametric study is directly such formulation on the variables. In reality, any deterministic structural analysis is such closed (if giant) form formulation, and we might think of our structural design softwares such way. "
What is meant by closed form formulation?---Formulation on the variables??
