suitable motor for electric car

Have a project to adapt a 2CV van into an electric short range car. I need to source a suitable 24 or 48 volt motor. Anyone got experience re: fork truck electric motors or any other suggestions please.

Given your mention of 'short range', I am assuming that efficiency is not a primary design driver, and thus a brush DC motor will suffice for your application.
