Suitable Valve type

Hi everybody…

We are looking for suitable type of valve in outlet of thermal reaction furnace (in Clause reactor in sulfur recovery unit ) which should be made for high temperature ( above 1200 °C) .The valve to be placed in a line diverting hot gases for heating the process gas coming out of sulfur condensers. Kindly suggest the suitable type of valve which can give at least 4 years of run length.

You'll probably have to use a refractory lined valve for this service. Here are a few links to some companies that may be able to offer a suitable piece of equipment.

That being said, hot gas bypasses are bad for sulfur recovery in your Claus plant. Using hot gas bypass for the first reheat isn't terrible because the bypassed stream will still see all of your catalytic converters, but you do lose the chance to condense some of the elemental sulfur formed in your reaction furnace so the equilibrium in your first converter will not be quite as good as it could be. If you're using hot gas bypass for the second, or third if you have one, reheats you're taking a pretty big hit on maximum achievable sulfur recovery since you'll be bypassing equilibrium stages. If possible, I'd suggest pursuing another reheat method.
