Gents,

We have carried out lab test for API 5CT L-80 (13%) material and found that sulfur content is 0.012% wheras API 5CT restricts it to 0.010%. Can we accept this? Also, I would like to know the difference between ppm and % mass fraction in pertaining to chemical composition.

Regards

No, to me as a customer you have not met the chemical composition requirement for maximum sulfur content by mass percent for API 5CT. PPM is simply a unit of concentration.

Any tolerance limit is applicable ?

metboss;
What was the method for chemical analysis? I am referring to either an ASTM Standard or other international standard. There are product analysis methods and reporting accuracy. Please obtain a copy and READ ASTM A 751. Keep in mind there is a line to be drawn when evaluating materials for conformance or nonconformance and if your product ends up on the other side of the line, so be it.

If you are testing finished product and not the melt then there is a tolerance outside of the specification range that applies.
Look it up.
