Has anyone any thoughts on how to measure the water soluble sulphate content of peat soils? BS1377 is no good as drying at 80oC is necessary and it is impossible to re-wet.

You could adopt a colorimetric method. I dont know the accuracy of this method. Your best bet would be to contact a geotech company and ask how they would do it.

This document has some information on the above method:

ftp://ftp.dot.state.tx.us/pub/txdot-info/cst/TMS/100-E_series/pdfs/soi145.pdf

There is also an atricle on it here (but you do have to pay for it)

Sorry cant be of anymore help!
