Sump pit distance from structural footing

Hello. There is a structural footing for a small building that is 3'4" deep to the bottom of the footing, and the footing is about 2 feet wide.

In general, how close can a sump pit be to this footing? Is 6" acceptable? 8"? The sump pit is circular, so it would be this close to the footing only at it's closest single point, most of the pit would be further away from the footing.

Generally speaking, I request that sump pits are placed a minimum distance away equal to the depth of pit below the footing bearing elevation. I.E. if your sump pit extends 3 feet below footing bearing, then I ask the sump pit to be 3 feet away.

Like Jayrod we'd typically look to get 1:1 away, occasionally the geotechnical report will note the zone of influence as a 2:1 ratio so if your 3 feet below b/ftg you'd want to be 6' away from the footing.

Do you have high lateral forces towards the sump? If so, are you using passive soil bearing to counteract the lateral force?
