I am in process of designing Super high pressure vessel.
Working pressure: 30,000 psi.
Working temperature: 450 degrees F.(electrically heated )
Working medium : water.
USAGE: welding integrity of sensor housing.
Vessel inside diameter required 2.5 inches.
Vessel total length: 56 inches
Does any one know if the Safety factor 3.5 from ASME BPVC SECTION VIII DIVISION 3 is based on Maximum Shear Stress Theory or based on DISTORTION-ENERGY THEORY ? I do not have
ASME code at hand. Is the Safety Factor from ASME based on S yield/ Von Mises stress or based on S yield/ maximum principal stress.
Is SF in the ASME CODE based on S ultimate/ S von Mises or S ultimate/ max principal stress.
Thanks,
Armanto
