Supplying USA fabricated Pressure Vessels to Australia

We are a USA based process design company and we are to supply four pressure vessels to Melbourne in Australia. Our vessels are designed and fabricated by an ASME code shop here in the USA.

My question is does anyone know the procedures that need to be folllowed for US fabricated Pressure Vessels to be accepted by Australian code?
Are ASME code fabricated vessels accepted "as is" by Australia or do the calculations and drawings have to be submitted for approval by a certifying body, if yes does anyone know who this body is?
Is there a requirement for the designer/ fab shop to be assessed in any way?

I am sure there is someone out there that has been through this many time before.

This is not an answer you should rely on, but it may help get started. A couple of years ago I spoke with a US-based vessel manufacturer about designing, signing and sealing the calcs and dwgs for an autoclave to be shipped to Oz. At the time of his inquiry to me, he advised that an ASME Code-stamped vessel could be used there, but that there was an administrative process to go thru to obtain jusidictional approval. He did not win the job, so it stopped there. I live in Oz in early 1980s and the place was full of ASME vessels. Not sure how things have progressed since then.

If you use HSBCT as your AIA their web site has full information under the Foregin Codes section. The Engineering Group can help you with registration.

Steve Braune is correct. Australia "accepts" ASME with an additional design verification and registration, but it depends on the state/territory with particulars. HSB Global Standards (the HSBCT referred to) is an accredited design verification and registration organization for Australia. If they are your AIA, talk to your AI. If not, and you still want their help, call the Home Office 800-417-3437 and ask for Sandy Babka, the international standards contact. This is one option, I'm sure there are others.

Thanks for the info, basically, since I first posted we have contracted with HSB in Australia and had the design review done. Vessels are in the fabrication shop at present.

Whilst ASME VIII pressure vessel design is accepted in Australia we had to make changes to the calculations and drawings to show a test pressure of 1.5 times the design rather than 1.3 as per ASME.

Once the Design approval was complete and we where given the go ahead by HSB Australia, our faricators own local AIA can look after the inspection. (providing that the AIA is one that is accepted by Australia)
