Hello Guys,

I am testing a software for analysing surfaces. We are supporting analysing surfaces for Gaussian curvature, slope, Section Curvature, Deviation etc. My problem is that I am not able to find a test case where these analysis tools can be used in practical situation.
For example. While checking surface for Gaussian curvature, our tools provide information like maximum / minimum curvature value. Location of the maximum and minimum curvature on the surface. Also it supports optimizing the surface to control the max. and min. curvature values and to control the location of max./ min. curvature points.
My query is where exactly this functionality can be used. Is there any practical cases FORUM may want to share with me. Images would be very helpful.

Thanks .....

Sanjay

Sanjay,

The functions you speak of, are used frequently to review customer supplied surfaces for manufacturability. We review the gaussian curvature values to determine whether or not the surface is a true cylinder (Gaussian value = 0), or has curvature in both directions. This assists the Process Engineers in determining what process will manufacture the quoted part.
