surface gives alarm when somthing pass it

I want to make asurface that has very small thicknes with dimensions of 50cm x 5m that gives me alarm when something like small ball goes throgh it
How to do this ?
I didnot know where to post question so if it is the wrong place could the admin move it to the right place

There is hardly enough detail to provide an appropriate answer (and my guess is this is not a Comm/Signal Processing problem, either).

If you're truly passing through the surface, an interrupted lightbeam would be easy... a noise detector another, depending upon material a resistance measurement would be another. Reflectance change, acceleroometer, and so on.
