surface modeling tools

Does inventor have the tools in order to make formed parts? I need to model a formed shape which is not to complex, but i belive it requires more then just the loft, and sweep functions.


Its a peice of flat bar, with the ends bent out to create some releif. The top back peice is folded over. Ill try to draw something up, scan and upload it.

Yes, Inventor will model surfaces. Then use Sculpt or Stitch to obtain solid.

note please that Inventor is weak in Surface design compared to SolidWorks or CATIA. you can probably accomplish the same results in the end but it will require more time and effort to arrive at the desired results.

Can you post an example SWx (r2008 or earlier) file that requires more time and effort to create same geometry in Inventor?

Don't get me wrong. Inventor is my favorite CAD software. but it lacks simple functionality in surface design. Without even trying a complex example I've attached a video comparing the boundary patch in both. I used the same exact surface. Inventor wont even do the Tan continuity, let alone Curvature continuity (not available). You notice that in SWX it had no issues in doing that. Again, I can probably do it in Inventor eventually, but for pure simplicity and speed I choose swx for this task.

Not interested in other sites. Only interested in *.sldprt examples. Can you roll up the history, zip and attach the sldprt here?
