Attached is a very simple model created using surfaces. Using NX4, what would be the best approach to model dome at the end to give the highest possible quality surface continuity.

Many thanks in advance.

This is what I'm trying to understand, I can get pretty much the same result using one or two different options, however even though there G2 on the cross strings there is still a dodgy join line and that is what I'm trying to overcome by creating a perfect, seamless joint, or am I expecting to much? Perhaps I need to rethink the input curve types? Have a look at the attached image I took from your model John, even though you have G2 you can clearly see the imperfection.

I think I may have mentioned to you before about building surfaces to a point!

In this case it really doesn't affect the middle of the surface so greatly as to be of any concern whatsoever, but the surface approaches the POINT the internals go astray and while the continuity condition for the edges is met the shape is slightly affected. Here I have just trimmed it back and thrown in a through curves surface to get a technically smoother result.

Comparisons between mine and Johns show s surface change of .05mm and about one degree. Other than for a highly polished item these kinds of differences might well go unnoticed.

Slick Hudson, I like that a lot, yet another approach to add to my tool box, that I need to thank outside of occasionally. [thumbsup]

Simon,

After a while you learn how to quarter things up into trimmed oversize sheets and basically rectangular surfaces.
