Surface nodes 1

Dear All
I have a question if there is any possibility of finding node numbers lying on a surface of a solid model. I have a meshed solid model and i want node numbers of the nodes which are on the surface not the internal ones. Is this possible?

Any answers to this will be highly appreciated.

Hi,

You can try to make a surface create from all solid elements. Next display only this surfaces. You will get only nodes which belong to external surface. Next step is to create node set with all displayed nodes. When you write a inputdeck you can open it and see which nodes belong to nodes set.

Thank you for the reply. I have tried to make surface and it was succesfuly made. I have tried to display the surface only and it shows the surface but doesnt show any mesh on it. Could you please inform what i am doing wrong?
Also could you please inform from which option i can make nodal set?.

It can be two things. First maybe you created surface from geometry entities, it should be surface build from elements.

Display your solid elements, Next choose:
Tools -> Surface -> Create -> type choose "mesh" and select all displayed elements.

Or your surface type is fine but you just did not show mesh in a viewport. View -> Part (or Assembly) Display Option -> Mesh -> Show native mesh.

Tools -> Set -> Create -> Node -> select all in a viewport

Sorry i cannot find any option that can let me choose other than the Geometry entities. Dont know how to build surface from elements.

Again it doesnt let me choose 'mesh'. its only 'geometry' from the default.

I dont know what i am missing. Could you please inform?

In what module are you when you are trying create a surface/set? You should be in mesh module.

I have checked it doing in all modules. (including mesh module). It always asks for Type: Geometry.
If possible, have you got any screenshot that you can show that option where the 'Type' is written?

Thankyou for your reply and the attached file. Forgot to inform that i am using Abaqus version 6.7-1 in which i cant find this option. but i got another way of doing that which is..
Create the surface of your choice in preferebly Part module and then run the analysis. You should be able to access the surface nodes in the visualisation mode Display groups.

Also when you make set with type 'geometry'. It allows you to select node set in display group.
