Surface Recrystallization During Machining

I know theoretically it's possible because in machining you are plastically deforming the metal and the metal can get very hot under the wrong machining conditions. Has anyone ever seen recystallization resulting from a cutting process ? Thanks

For steel I would say, no. But what metals are you asking about?

A 310 austenitic alloy.

Here is a little more information. I did a Kallings #2 etch and it brought out precipitates along the grain boundaries near the surface. We supply the 310 material in the solutionized condition and then the part gets machined. Has anyone seen chromium carbide precipitation as a result of machining? These are the times when it would be useful to buy a SEM. Thanks
