Surface Transitions

So, I've been teaching myself how to build surfaces using the style feature. When I try to protrude a thickness, Pro/E tells me geometry is overlapping. So, I've been reading some of these posts hinting at what a headache it is to get surfaces to transition smoothly, and (I've got a month set aside for it) I would like to know how to do this.

If it is something easy could someone please guide me through it. Otherwise, if there is an excellent book out there could someone refer that to me.

This type of message usually appears when the base surface is too curved to create the offset surface or thickness for the solid protrusion.

If you get this message, start by making the offset surface or thickness smaller. Keep going smaller until the offset is created. Then try to increase the thickness or offset just a little to the point where the geometry fails and use failure analysis resolve to show you where the model is failing. It will appear in red on the screen.

At this point you will probably realize that the model is too curved for one reason or another. Make a slight change in the model and see if you can get the model to offset.
