Surge Arrrester for Transformer 1

Dear All,

I am not experience in T&D. But our transformer using Lightning Arrester on HV connected to transmission line. How to get proper spec of arrester for this transformer (theory, calculation, standars, etc).

Also the LA is connected with discharge counter(?) what is the function of this device?

Any web related this ?

QUESTION: How to get proper spec of arrester for this transformer (theory, calculation, standards, etc).
ANSWER: Check the following references: ANSI/IEEE Std 62,IEC Std 60621,Insulation Coordination literature and application of transient analysis/simulation with programs such as EMTP. Also check with surge arrester manufacturers, they may publish application guides to support their product.

QUESTION: ……what is the function of this device (discharge counter)?
ANSWER: Lightning counter are used to determine the number of surge arrester discharge. Some lightning counters are available with capability to track the time of the event at remote location. Beware that surge arresters base must be isolated for ground in order the counter to be operated. See example of instruction manual attached.
