I'm trying to size a fluid buffer or surge protector for a small hard piped manifold which has a 1500psi output regulator and a number of small valves.

We've experienced (in the past) regulator jacking (rapid open/close cycle) when there isn't enough fluid capacitance in the circuit between the source (regulator) and the operator.

I could simply put in the largest bladder accumulator that would fit, but I'd like to be more discerning. Is there a rule of thumb or simple calculation to put me in the ballpark?

I'd be inclined to try a spring loaded piston type accumulator, with a volume on the order of one or two valves' volume. Or a very small bladder accumulator.

I don't know of any sizing rules.

So...no formal methods for sizing pulsation dampers?

Didn't Peter's article have enough formulas for you?

If you want to do it the easy way check out Parker's online catalog.
