Hi all,

I would like to ask which kind of problems in terms of engine reliability or protection do you detect on your gensets ?
What are your wishes for a more reliable system ?

I am analyzing electrical controls / systems regarding gensets and so I would appreciate any potential improvement out of the rough field operation.
From old gensets up to state of the art systems.
Also problems regarding commissioning would be interesting.

Thank you very much !
Best regards

Thomas

What type and size genset are we talking about here?

From my perspective on the sub 100k units:

We have the usual, high water temp and low oil pressure.

1. Low water level sensor, which is already sometimes found.

2. Low oil level sensor, so that the thing does not have to suck air and go low oil pressure and starve the bearings before the controller shuts it down.

3. Overload detection. This is sometimes found but not usually in my experience.

I am interested in gesets of 1MVA and higher

Thanks again
Thomas

Maybe split the range again.
Are you interested in:
1MVA to 4.999MVA
5MVA to 20MVA
>20MVA

Also, prime or standby?

One reference I suggest is IEEE Std 493-2007, Design of Reliable Industrial and Commercial Power Systems?

Hi,

thanks for suggestion of IEEE !

Your question:

* Prime power operation.

* I guess most for the relevant applications has a power within 1...5MVA.
But if some effects mostly occur in heavier power sets I would be also interested in.

Thank you.
