Surveying a Mound

I am using a Leica TPS 1200+ robotic total station to conduct an archaeological survey. The centerpiece of the site is a large ceremonial mound. I would like to use the robotic quality of the total station to take data points in order to create a meshwork upon which I can drape photos of the mound. Essentially I want to do a 3D laser scanning project without an actual scanning device. Since the total station uses a laser detection system and can take points over a user-defined amount of time, is this possible? Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Why don't you just do a photo to point cloud?
