Hi people!, I've installed sw 2003 in win xp and when I try to execute the program this message appears: "Failed to initialize Visual Basic for Apps, equations and macros will not work", could someone help me?, it`s been a pain since 3 months ago and I can`t fix it. I have excel installed and also the win XP service pack 1 and nothing works...
Thank you

Did you have anti-virus software running when you installed? If so, disable it and reinstall. I would blow away the current install before I reinstalled, just to be sure.

And another thing. What version of Excel are you installing? If it is old (pre-2000 ???) it won't work.

If want to do a clean install (and I think you might want to after you answer DetroitPickles questions) try following this FAQ faq559-488

Hi there!,
Problems... I tried the clean install, disabled the AV when installing, erased all previous installs and files and I got the same error... I swear to kiss the one with the solution to this nightmare.
Thanks anyway
Piper

I have installed excel 2002

Hi there. I've got the very same problem, and so far, SW 2003 does not work. SW keeps showing the same error message that piper71 says. I've got an ahtlon XP +2000 machine and a Nvidia GeForce MX with 64MB. My MS Office version is the XP one. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards.

The GF MX has not been tested with XP home (Which is not supported) or XP Pro. But from results that are already given, I would bet it will not be a Green passing card. 64MB isn't the problem its the chipset on the board.

Neither of you specified which XP...XP Pro, or XP home?

I have XP Pro with SW01+ and SW03 installed. My MS Office is 2000 SP3, and I haven't had a problem with either installing it or running it. If you have followed the FAQ above when trying to reinstall it and that didn't work. Then it's time for a more drastic Regclean. You will have to follow the FAQ up to where it starts cleaning out the registery. Once you are in the Registery editor. Start in the first folder and run a search for "Solidworks" and delete everything pertaining to SW. If your not sure don't remove it, just keep going.

IMPORTANT: YOU HAVE TO BE COMFORTABLE IN IN CHANGING THE REGISTERY, BECAUSE IT COULD CAUSE PROBLEMS WITH YOUR [blue]OS[/color] IF YOU REMOVE THE WRONG DATA

My XP version is the Professional one. I did all that the FAQ says, but it still doesn't run... If you have more ideas, it would be nice. Gee... Thanks anyway. It is good to know that you can receive some support from the net.

No personal experience with SW 2003 yet, but I justed wanted to say in general "uninstalling" is NOT the same as the havoc-wreaking act of deleting program folders etc.

I hesitate to respond, as I really don't want a big wet kiss thank you..... ;-) (Besides, my wife might get all upset if she found out.)

However I might add that on my home system I run SW2003 with Office/Excel 97 and is works fine.

I have seen the same problem once (two weeks ago) on a single machine and it appeared to relate the order in which we had loaded SW and (in this case) SmarTeam. We blew it all away and reloaded and all is now well.

One other cause of similar error messages is if you are accessing Office over a network. It needs to be installed locally on your machine. That info' was buried somewhere in the release notes way back and I have not heard of any changes to that status. BTW: If this is the problem, I seem to recall you have to blow away SW before you load Office locally, then reload SW, otherwise the reg entries for still look for the network version for SW.

Once again, I suggest you request your VAR to get his/her rear end over to your site and fix your problem - that's what you are paying your annual support fee for!

Well, I assume you have installed SW properly and still have the problem.

This might be to a bit hard if you don't know PC well, but I will try to make it straight forward.
1. Go to your user profile. The default is "C:\Documents and Settings\{your login name}"
2. Right click on "Application Data" and select "Properties"
3. Click "Security" tab and find your name addition to "Administrators" and "SYSTEM"
4. Click on your name and see if you have "Full Control"

If you can't find your name or you don't have "Full Control", that could be the cause.

You need to have administration privilege to fix this. If you don't, ask your IT or administrator.
Easiest way to make sure is create a new user profile. Logon with the new user name and see if the problem is fixed. If so, the problem was caused by the incorrect privilege of your user profile. I believe you want to keep all environment you had, so logon as administrator and assign you to "Application Data" or give "Full Control" to you. There might be other folders that are screwed up too. Go to "C:\Documents and Settings" and right click on your name and select "Properties" Then, you can assign "Full Control" to all folders under your user profile.

If you don't care about your old profile, just start working with the new logon name. It's safest way to go.

If this works, give me a pink star instead of kiss :)

Have you told XP to run SolidWorks under Win 2000? I have XP-pro at home and as I recall, I had to tell it to run SW under a different OS before it would run. It's been a while since I did it, so I don't remember where you set it in XP and I am not at home to look for it. XP is not certified for SW, but the XP OS has the ability to emulate most of the earlier Win OS's. Rummage thru the control panel, it's in there somewhere.

Hey, I finally remembered to look on XP Pro at home.

It is not in the control panel at all, I was remembering all wrong. Go to the SolidWorks program files and right click on the executable for SW. In the dialog box that pops up, there is a compatability tab where you can tell XP to run in NT or 2000 compatability mode. This fixed all my problems running under XP.

Hi Piper 71

I have the same problem that you. Do you find the solution?

You should not have to run on XP in 2000 mode. That's a crutch.

Seems like this is a common issue and must have a simple (but obviously elusive) answer. One of you must be paying annual service contract surely? (You ALL should!) Go and grab you VAR by the short and curlies and don't let go till he explains the problem and provides a fix. Then for goodness sake publish it for everyone. Our VAR would never let this situation go like this. You can bet your life someone at SolidWorks knows what the issue is and your VAR can call them if they need to.

I still believe a permission of your user profile causes the problem.

Did any of you who have the problem tried what I suggested earlier? Again, an easiest way to make sure is create a new user profile ( a new logon account) and see if the problem is gone. If so, follow my instruction to fix.
