Remember though. If you install SW05 SP0.0 from the Download. When a SP comes out you will most likely have to reisntall from the CD's before you can install the SP.

Forgot to add:

If you haven't already, then you need to fully test SW05 before you implement it into your production CAD systems. Because once converted over to SW05 your stuck there.

So if there are any major bugs, you will have to deal with them. I would hate to see users stuck in a bugged out CAD system.

I have seen it before and I know it wasn't pretty for them. But they didn't fully test it and that's what happens if you don't test it.

Is it possible to install 2005 sp0 without "disturbing" by 2004, 4.1 installation?

Will I be able to uninstall/reinstall 2005 once the media arrive?

I'm eager to check it out!

Of course!

I have 4 versions on my machines. you have to install everything into a different directory. e.g. - change the file folder on install to "Solidworks05". i have it set up like this for all versions.

Solidworks01+
Solidworks03
Solidworks04
Soildworks05

If your running PDMworks be careful! You could overwrite your vault then things could get bad. So watch yourself!

When you go to the dowload site SW has a disclaimer about all this. Yes once the CD's arrive you can unistall and reinstall with no problems.

So far, are there any known bugs that we should consider as critical?

Has anyone transferred the user.cus file successfully from 04? Do the icons come in ok, or does it get mixed up because of the different structure of 05? thanks

The cus file is only for your Keyboard shortcuts. The Icons are not really of different structure they use the XP look now that I'm not crazy about at all. Makes the icons look fat and hard to read. I liked them when they were easy to read SW04 and earlier - Crisper.

Install it and try it out. Just follow the above on installing to a NEW directory if you do.

The .cus from 04 will work in 05. Also SW 05 now remembers the placement of toolbars so when you partially minimize the window and then maximize the toolbars stay in the correct locations. There is also a new copy settings wizard that saves all your SW system option settings and screen set-ups so when you upgrade to a new version everything looks the same when you open the new upgrade. This is also helpful when you want installations on different machines to have the same toolbar set-up and system options. Administrative image installs have also been automated for easy installation.

I actually like the XP icon look. Took a while to get used too, but gives everything a fresh new appearance.
