I have searched on here with no luck.

Our whole department just got new computers.

Dell
4 Gig Ram
2.4 GHz Dual Core Processors
XP Pro 64 bit edition

Solidworks
SP 0.0 2007 x64 Edition

We are having detailing problems.

Dimensions disappear
Fit to screen puts the drawing 20 miles away and can't get it back

Is this a simple fix? We got people getting the old pc's and 2006 solidworks up and running so they can detail again.. ughghghg

Hi arcticmatt,

This sounds a lot like a video card issue - check what video card you have, make sure it is compatible with SolidWorks - then make sure you have the card set up correctly and all the latest up to date drivers for it.

Remember the latest video card driver is not always the approved SolidWorks driver. Alos get to the latest service pack. We are on 64 bit machines and not having any problems.

Whoops.. I forgot to post graphics card

NVIDIA Quadro FX 3500

I called our solidworks help people upstate.. they are teaching a class and too busy to deal with us.. LAME

Re-checking driver and card capabilities now

I did not come up with this.

Video Card Driver installs

1. Know your Video Card Name and Number
2. Know your Screen resolution
3. Open Windows Control panel
4. Go to Add and remove Programs
5. Un-install Video driver
6. Reboot
7. Install latest SolidWorks Certified video driver for your Card
8. Reboot
9. Test
10. In the system tray you will find an icon called NVIDIA Settings, LMC (Left Mouse Click) the icon. Now click Application Settings then pick SolidWorks.

The current SP for SW07x64 is 3.1.

SP4EV, which fixed a lot of problems (not recommended for production use though) is also available if you sign up for the Early Visibilty program.

Also make sure that the video card application is set to SolidWorks.

That video card is certified for WinXP 64-bit. Do you have the correct driver per ?

Also, if your VAR does not have enough manpower for basic technical support, then I may suggest finding a new VAR is a top priority? Or maybe I've just been spoiled by my VAR for 9 years. hehe

OK.. new driver installed.. problems still exist.

VAR called me back. I did a solidworks RX for me (I was a virgin to that.. preety cool!). It did a screen capture of everythign I was doing and sent them all of our information.

We are running sp 0 because our solidworks guy here refuses to run the new service packs unless its been out for awhile and proven.. and all 6 of us need to run the same service pack (according to him)

That is not true.

Unless your "SolidWorks guy" uses an networked admin image, you do NOT all have to be on the same SP although it does make sense to be.

SW07x64-SP3.1 has been available since April 2007
SW07x64-SP2.2 has been available since January 2007
Although neither were perfect, they have both been proven for general stability.

You all do need to run the same SolidWorks 2007. Service pack 1.0 thru 3.1 a lot better than SP 0.0. We never use SP 0.0; we always start at SP 1.0, less problems that way.

Actually, if you run PDMWorks you do need to run the same SP.

I would upgrade to SP4 asap if I were you. I run SW 2007 x64 as well and it is a big improvement in stability & usability. SP0 is in no way better.

BTW, the zoom to fit error is probably the result of some geometrical annomaly (eg a sketch point in a strange place). Try box selecting a quarter of your screen at a time.

It sounds like the SP update is the obvious answer to the problem. I wouldn't expect any help from the VAR nor SWX until you've done that.

Rather than wasting time getting old machines set up to run the earlier release you should be getting your current deployment up to date.

We are running sp 0 because our solidworks guy here refuses to run the new service packs unless its been out for awhile and proven..

So he'd rather run a release with known bugs than the releases with the fixes to those bugs?

Sounds to me like you need a different "solidworks guy."

How much do YOU owe?

I run the Quadro 3400 on an x64 machine with SP2.2. Works well.

BTW, I remember seeing some of these issues in 0.0. This is your problem, as well as this 'guy.'

hahaha you guys are great "guy" haha.

I am going to do the service pack as mentioned.. but waiting to hear back from the VAR

I dont' know how to quote.

I thought of that.. did it on every drawing I opened.. orgin point in the middle of the part.

I had tons of bugs with SP 0. (By the way, this is typically the most buggy possible SP to use, hence the huge feedback quantity you're getting on this issue.)

Your mention of the origin point is throwing me. Are you talking about the 2D drawings (for manufacture) or the 3D models?

Is this happening to every user with a new machine?
Does it happen when starting a new drawing with just a sheet format or border. (ie. no model views)?

Thanks ;)

Well.. the VAR called and told me to upgrade service packs. I am now running 3.1. It worked!!!!

Now.. everyone in the department is updating so we can get back to business around here :)

Thanks all for the advice and such!

oh and also.. I see 4.0 is out as of yesterday.. when is its "safe" to run that?
