SW05 Custom Properties Question

So after making the switch to 2005, I realized that I don't completely understand the change in the custom properties layout. I have a list of field that are supposed to be filled out, but when I try to create a new entry with the drop-down box, nothing comes up (I was hoping it would pull from the properties.txt).

Can anyone make any sense of the change for me, or is the best solution to just update the part templates so that all the fields that are required are populated with a space (so that they are automatically shown in the list)?

If this isn't clear enough I'll gladly answer any questions for clarification.

Did you have the properties in your pre-SW2005 part template?
Are you saying the properties are not recognized or are removed by SW2005?

[cheers]

I'm saying I don't think SW05 recognizes the SW04 templates properly. For example; I go to file, properties, custom and then click in the blank box under property name, and on the right in the box is a drop-down arrow (which I assume is supposed to link to the properties.txt) but it doesn't do anything (doesn't drop down, doesn't show anything). By default, I have 3 fields and value automatically populated when creating a new part (Status = In Design, Current Rev = 00 and Unit = Inches or Metric accordingly). There are about 10 other fields that are mandatory, and I'd like them all to automatically be listed under "Property Name" like the first 3 are, only without any default values.

I'm fairly certain that I can do this just by entering an empty space in the value for each, but I'd like to know why this new format changed in such a way that the simplicity of the old one doesn't appear to work at all.

Did you reset the Tools > Options > File Locations in SW2005?
It sounds like SW05 is reading the default location templates & not your SW04 custom ones.

Yeah. Everything was mapped correctly to the server. Any other ideas?

Not at the moment. I'm still running SW04 so cannot experiment, but probably your best bet is to recreate the props in your part & assy templates. Whether you use a space or hyphen or ??? is up to you.

Bring up the properties list, click Edit List, add your new property. Then in the custom tab in the property list, go to the bottom of the list. In my Property Name list, the new property I inserted was not there. At the end of the list was a blank line. Click in the box and you will get a down arrow, pick your new property. Go to the next one and pick Type.

Remember to do this to your Model template. Then all new parts will have your new properties.
Good Luck,

Bradley

That's just the problem. Under Property Name nothing shows up that is in my properties.txt except the 3 values that are automatically populated, even if I click edit list and add more. Furthermore, when I click on the first empty box under Property Name (in my case its always row 4) and click the dropdown tab, nothing happens (aka no values are selectable from the tab, its like there's no point to the dropdown).

Looks like I'm gonna be calling our SW rep.

purecoda,
Your right, something is wrong. Time to e-mail your file to the the VAR.

Spoke with my support contact. Totally baffled. He finally had me send in a SWRx and I'm waiting to hear back.

Off-topic, but another strange glitch I had after upgrading from 04SP4.1 to 05SP0.1 was that OCCASIONALLY it would launch the 04 version of the software. Same with eDrawings. Very bizzare. To resolve that I did a total uninstall and reinstall, including removing all registry entries... seemed to work for that issue anyhow. (Tried repair first, that didn't fix either).

AARRRGGGGHHHH!

This error is driving me crazy. It is not effecting anyone else in my office, but is effected other people who logon to my machine. I had our IT guy play with it for a while to no avail. I'm still waiting to hear back from support.

HELP!

Have your IT guy make a "Ghost" copy of a known good computer hard drive onto your hard drive. I had one computer on our network which had weird problems even an MS guru could not fix, until he "Ghosted" the drive ... no problems ever since.

After really banging our heads on this one my support rep finally figured it out (by chance, but I'll take it). Its some strange glitch in SP0.1 that happens when running dual monitors. Funny thing is, it works fine on the other screen, I was just in the habit of having it on the right screen I would have never thought to move it.

So simple, but SO frustrating. Glad that's over with. (They will be fixing this issue in SP1.0)
