I am running Windows 2000 on a 1.8GHz P4. This latest SP is a bad one. It crashes at whatever file that I open. The last message states "SolidWorks has terminated due to an unhandled error. Please contact your local SolidWorks support ....". I have used SWX since 1997, and I have not seen anything as bad as this.

I have been running SW2001+ on Win 2000 and a 800mhz P3 machine without issues. Are you sure its the software? Have you tried emptying out your temp directory? Do you have your virtual memory set high enough? Do you have at least 512 RAM? Are you using a goog graphics card? There are all kinds of reasons the system could crash that may not be software related... Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software?

Do not know any solution?
We are facing similar problem in WINNT. Some users are able to open and some are not. i.e. Different logins were creating this problem. By trial and error we found a adhoc solution. Delete the user profile in which the error occured. We made this by right-clicking My-Computer after logging with administrator rights. Deleting the user profile. Ensure that you backup all your desktop and personnel folder items before attempting this fix.

If somebody can through light on this subject. Why it happens? What is the solution. It will be very helpfull to us also

It sounds improbable, but this may very well be related to your graphics card. I recently switched to the Matrox G550 (I run two screens) and updated to the latest driver, and my stability problems were reduced remarkably. I used to crash at average 30 minute intervals with the ATI Radeon that came in my new system, and now am running for (too many) hours continuously. Hard to believe, but it seems to be the trick. The Matrox is pretty cheap for it's capabilities, but be SURE you use the SW-approved driver or you'll have the same problem. Good luck!

Depending on the card you have, you may want to play with the OpenGL settings in SolidWorks. This may highlight the issue odmullen mentioned above.

We have been running the latest version of SW with WinNT and a 64MB NVIDIA Quadro Pro2 AGP card without a single crash. Before we switched cards a few years back, we did have some issues with this. DimensionalSolutions@Core.com

There are know problems with the ATI Radeon cards and SWX. We have several different platforms running here (win2k, winNT), but all with 3d Labs Oxygen cards (VX or GVX) and we don't have this problem. "Happy the Hare at morning for she is ignorant to the Hunter's waking thoughts."

I am using 3D Lab Wildcat 5110. I do not think that graphic card is the problem. I have 2Gb of memory and I do not think that the memeroy is an issue.

SP2.0 simply crashes when I OPEN any file.

I reinstall SP1.2 back to my computer, and it works fine.

Sounds like you have a good video card, however I would not be to quick to rule it out as the problem. Have you gone out to 3D labs website and check for a more current driver?

In my years of supporting and using SolidWorks the graphics card drivers keep popping up as the problem. I am not at all stating that the cards are no good. I think it is more how SolidWorks talks to the cards.
