SW2003, Display problem, Winbook laptop

I have been running sw2003/W2000pro on an older computer with no problems and recently this computer was replaced with a Winbook 2.8/XPpro by decree from Those Upstream in our organization..
Opening old files works fine on the Winbook but when I try to make a part file the display is not "complete". For example, if I try to draw a rectangle the lines showing the sides of the rectangle do not display, even though the corner points do. If I hover the cursor over a line, it will change to indicate midpoint (even though there is "nothing" to be seen). Similarly, when I try to describe a circle, only an arc of the top half is visible.
I have no problem initiating 2-D drawings and all tools appear to function OK in that mode.

Can this problem be due to the video card being inadequate? If so, why can it display old part drawings and assemblies with no problem?

Most probably. A quick test is to turn your hardware acceleration down to None:-

RMB your Desktop & select Properties > Settings > Advanced > Troubleshoot then drag the slider bar over to None. This effectively turns the hardware acceleration off. If the problem goes away then it's the card. If it doesn't then it's ??????

Why don't you list your the hardware and especially the video card. Most likely its your video card and there isn't much you will be able to do with it unless (if possible) replace the video card! Do as CBL suggests. Also turn on your Software OpenGL option inside SW.

1) Open SW with a file open
2) Tools\Options\System Options\Performance\(at the bottom)Software OpenGL
3) Turn it on - If it's greyed out - There is only 2 reasons why
a) You have a file open
b) Your card doesn't support OpenGL

Because I'll bet if you started a new sketch or rebuilt and old sketch of the older files that you would get the same result. Opening the up and viewing the sketches isn't the problem. It's the refresh rate of card while making the sketches that causes it too fail.
