SW2009 - Problem with creating 3D line tangent to helix 1

I used to be able to do this in SW2008 but have not been sucessful in 2009. Can anyone advise me what I am doing wrong?

I create a helix.
I then open a 3D sketch, draw a random line. The endpoint is placed on the helix - so far so good.

Now I want to make the line tangent to the helix at that intersection point - it does not let me add the sketch relation.

Ultimately I am after a line perpendicular to the helix, but even in SW2008, it did not let me do that, the best i could do was draw a tangent line, and then draw another line perpendicular to that one. I cant even do that in SW2009.

My old SW2008 files that were converted to 2009 still work. I am trying to create a new one.

Any ideas?

Use "Convert Entities" to bring the helix into your sketch and constrain t that. Make the converted helix a construction entity if you must.
