I am working with a large assembly that is extensively automated with Pro/Program. The assembly contains many flat components (boards). The edges of these boards will have an edge treatment applied. For instance, edges could have a quarter-round applied or, sometimes, edges could have a cut with an ogee profile. At present, we have about 100 different tooling profiles that could be applied to an edge. That number is growing.
I am looking for an easy was to programmatically swap edge treatments.
My first thought is to do this with UDFs or a family table within a UDF. I cannot get this to work. I do not see way to use Pro/Program to select an instance from within a UDF. Can this be done? If so, how?
If anyone can think of alternate approaches, I would be happy to try them.
Whatever solution we settle on, it needs to allow for the quick and easy addition of new tooling profiles. Please remember that this solution will be applied to dozens of distinct components each with several edges. It would take days of effort to applying a new tool profile manually to each possible edge where it may be used.
Thanks.
