Engineers,

I have been trying to see the difference between Swell and heave but don't have a clear difference between both.

Both are related to when soils expand due to the addition of water. Both terminologies are measurable (such as, 0.10 ft heave or 0.10 ft of swell).

I see the heave terminology used more in excavation topics.

Please let me know,

thanks.
