for any .idw that i open up or create, the annotation symbols, ie diameter and feature control frame symbols show up as regular alphabetic letters. For instance, diameter shows up as "n". All the guys in the shop are constanly asking me what "n" is supposed to mean on the print. The font for the test style is Arial in all the drawings. Any idea what is going on here?

Inventor uses AIGDT font to create it's symbols, just like in AutoCAD where you have to switch to GDT font to get symbols. What is probably happening is that dimensions are either getting formated to change the text style or they are getting copied. When you copy information from a text editor all the text defaults to the standard text style, this changes any text that was AIGDT to Arial or whatever your default is.

AIGDT....

Arial is my prefered font for text on drawings, then if you use the symbol tool in the text editor it will autmatially switch to AIGDT for the symbol. If you need to edit a dimension because the symbols are missing highlight the letters that should be symbols and change your font to AIGDT.

Thanks for responding, aardvarkdw, but something else must be wrong. When i edit the dimension text, the diameter symbol first shows up as a black square with no font associated with it. If i highlight it and change the font to arial, the square changes into the letter n.

Change the font to AIGDT instead of Arial and it will become the dia symbol.

fa! I didn't realize you meant AIGDT is the name of an actual font. It was not on my computer. I downloaded it, installed it and reopened inventor. Now all the symbols show up just fine. thanks again, aardvarkdw.
