I have just modeled a belt with the normal sketch and extrude (surface) function. The problem is when I have two belts the same size, and length. I basically have two parts that should have the same name manufacturer number, but are two different shapes; based upon how/where they are used.

I have been naming them a generic name, and manufacture part number to distinguish them. For example:

belt 1 - 14MGT-1890-20
belt 2 - 14MGT-1890-20
belt 3 - 14MGT-1890-20

Is there a better way to handle this? I would like to get rid of the generic name and just have the manufacturer number for all belts the same size. Has anyone had experience with the synchronous belts functions?

thanks!
Matthew

It could work if had a user specified part number, so that the two files could show up as the same manufacturer number. And the qty shown in the bill would be combined to look like one item.

That user specified part number can be found under properties/project tab and in the part number column. The Bill of Materials table will also combine all instances of this custom number, so that the qty will resemble how many are in that assembly.

Has anyone experience using the Synchronous Belt function under Design Assistant? Know a good place to find references? The tutorial was very basic. I have a situation where I'm using two existing pulleys, and one virtual pulley as the idler. The virtual pulley is so I can use the rotation driven sliding position? It seems to look correct.

I’m getting two errors which I can not seem to resolve.

- fail to start calculation. Inputs are inconsistent with in-build rules.

- Calculation: failed to compute sliding pulley position. Please correct belt transmission layout.

Hello Matthew,
I suppose that the error you are describing is related to the situation where no "standard" belt can be selected for given geometry. Belt generator pushing to select "standard" belt as that is usually provided by various belt manufacturers.

I recommend to change the geometry (move some pulley if possible). If pulleys position can't be changed as well as position and size of tensioner arm you might consider to use "non-standard" (custom) belt. There is no easy way to define custom belt in the Belt generator but I can send you some instructions how to accomplish that if really needed.
