What, in your judgement, would be the opimal requirements, should one want to run large assemblies on a laptop. Which graphic controller, how much RAM, minimum cpu, etc.

I wouldn't buy any laptop that doesn't have the NVIDIA Qudro graphics. That said, the Pentium M is the current standard for workstation laptops and anywhere between 1 to 2 GB of memory should work well. The Dell M70 is an excellent choice, but get the faster drive.
