I would like to ask if there is any regulation/guideline, regarding the Identification of Storage Tanks (API 650). This in terms of size, style and format of lettering. Also regarding colour and location.
Can I find this information/guideline or it's ALL Owner definition.

Thanks.

In the USA, NFPA 704 contains rules for Storage Tank identification for firefighting purposes.

Regarding color, IMHO, there are no rules but most owners choose a white or light colored paint in order to keep the internal temperatures down. The tank color should fit into the plant scheme, however. I have seen fire protection tanks painted red, water tanks painted green and asphault storage tanks painted black.

Tank location (and indirectly aspect ratio)is affected by the local fire protection regulation and permitting. Also NFPA 30 contains rules on tank spacing and minimum distances to structures.

Since you are a newbie and trying to learn, get your cheap boss to purchase this fine book by Phillip Meyer:

I'm only asking about Tag Numbers for Storage Tanks. Tanks are already done, all of them supervised by the "newbie". [dazed]

No regulation I'm aware of, just whatever your project equipment numbering manual says.

I've seen T1, T2, T1A, T1B, T10, 11, 101,102, 1001,1002, 1101, 1102 for fluid type 11, tank 01 T 4201 for fluid type 42 etc etc

If you can think of a numbering system for equipment then its probably been done.

Sometimes its in letters 10 feet high you could see from a mile away, other times you need to get within 3 feet to read the nameplate on the tank which is the only thing API 650 wants.

The only common thing has been the letter T.

In some states in the US a tank must be white before it is filled with VOC to reduce emissions
