Greetings,

I am looking for a method to calculate tank venting volumetric flowrate. I am working on a hydrometallurgical process whereby tank offgases are scrubbed in packed columns. We are looking to evaluate the flows drawn by individual tanks on a particular scrubber. Does anyone have a suggestion, possibly a website with the info or a text to get a hold of.

Thanks.

The general assumption is that tank venting needs are equal to the the change in liquid level. API-2000 also includes allowances for sudden temperature changes (sudden rain on a hot roof), and some allowance for the added liquid being at a different temperature from the tank. If tank contents are heated, have chemical reactions, etc., it gets more involved, or if the tanks are pressurized, it gets more involved.

JStephen is correct that API-2000 may prove useful in some respects. It's predominantly associated with emergency venting and you need to be aware that the tank geometry may not match the same premise presented in API-2000. If you choose to follow the methodology you need to have a reasonable knowledge of the process fluid chemical characteristics.
