I have circular concrete tanks, 7 metres high, sitting on stiff to very stiff alluvial sandy clay, medium to high plasticity.
I'm assuming that there will be some vertical movement as the tanks are filled and emptied.
The tanks are located within a bunded area with a concrete slab floor.
Does anyone have advice/experience regarding the interface of tank base and bund floor.
- Do I provide a control joint with sealant, how will the sealant cope with differential vertical movement? Should there be dowels across the joint?
- Do I keep the tank floor integral with the bund floor?
- Do I need to do FEA to assess effect on bund slab due to tank movement?
- Is a modulus of subgrade reaction of 25 MPa/m (100 pci)reasonable?
Thanks ,John
