When we add a nipple in one of our assemblies, we give it a part number of our own (random number with no reference to the properties of the item).

Problem is, when I want to use this same nipple in another assembly, it's difficult to find out if that type already has been assigned a number.

Is there a way to add, for example, the parker number as a description or something like that and search for that information in teamcenter?

This is not a small question :)
Yes you can add supplier-numbers, as many as you want , if your Teamcenter is set up that way.
It's a matter of how and what attributes can be used in Teamcenter. You could for example set up an attribute "supplier-no" and use that for this purpose.
Another simple trick is to have a shared folder in Teamcenter where you and your colleagues store standard details, it can of course have subfolders such as "nipples", "bushings" etc Then map this folder ( can be multiple folders) in the customer defaults - gateway - reuse library and it's visible in logic folders for everbody.

Tomas
