I recently came across a P&ID that shows a shell and tube heat exchanger. In addition to increasing the temperature of the natural gas with the steam, the P&ID shows TEG going into the exchanger as a heat transfer fluid.

Does anyone have a practical knowledge of how this process work? Not how the heat exchanger works, but how TEG is used as a heat transfer fluid. Does the TEG come in contact with any of the process fluids (steam and natural gas)? If yes, how do you minimize losses to the TEG? ANd if not, where is the TEG put? It's not the shell or the tube, so where do we put the heat transfer fluid (TEG)?

Thanks. Any and all help will be appreciated.

I believe your question is difficult to answer because dont have the P&ID. Never saw TEG used inside a heat exchanger. The most common is to have a contact vessel where you have a flow of gas in contercurrent with TEG for dehydration. This heat exchanger can be part of TEG regeneration system.
If the P&ID is not enough, you can take a look at the operating manual.
Send the P&ID if possible.

Best regards!

It almost sounds like the exchanger is actually steam to gas, with TEG injected on the gas side as a dehydration measure. A P&ID would indeed be helpful.
