Hello! I recently had a sliding glass door with tempered glass spontaneously fracture, however, the manufacturer states they are able to identify a point of impact. Is anyone able to provide me with evidence that the glass fracture is due to a structural issues versus an impact? I am not a glass expert and would like a second opinion as to the possible or likely causes of the glass breakage. If you could please include references to justify your opinions.

Looks like an impact to me as well. Any structural stress would have resulted in a stress concentration along the edges and not in the middle of the pane

One other possibility is some sort of localized thermal stress, but comment section of this article also mentions bird strikes

TTFN (ta ta for now)
