Hi,

I have a set of previously generated part family members in UG NX 5.0.3.2 but the template part was deleted by accident. Is there any way to save a particular size of the part family such that it can be edited?
For the moment, all I am getting notifications that I cannot make changes to the part family member and that all changes must be made to the template (seed) file.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

I found out by accident that if i run the refile command on a member only, it becomes a non family part and can then be edited.
See other threads about the refile command.

Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately, the company I am working at does not run Teamcenter and has an old school File/Folder swap in/swap out system of maintaining CAD data. Is it possible to run 'Refile' without Teamcenter.

PS: Pardon my ignorance. I have never used the Refile command before.

Yes. It is recommended to refile your parts when you upgrade versions of NX. There are 2 different versions of the refile utility: one for native setups, the other for teamcenter.

Thanks for the clarification. Where in the Toolbars can I find the Refile command for native set-ups?

The refile utility is a separate program that can be found in the UGII subdirectory of your NX install. Search the help files on "refile part" for instructions on its use.

Did we lose a few entries in this thread? I can recall replying to a post, but neither it nor my reply is here now.

Has anyone actually tried this and succeeded?

I just tried this using the NX 7.5 'refile_part.exe' with a single family table member and all I got was a nice new NX 7.5 version of what was an NX 5.0 Family Table Member part. Nothing changed except the version of the file.

Now I didn't actually expect anything to happen since I've run refile for years on Family Table Members and I had never noticed any of them suddenly becoming write-able (no longer 'Read Only').

Well, hm, i might be wrong here,
The experience i have is when running under Teamcenter and it's sibling of the refile command where I think I managed to cut the connection between the template and the member by accident.
I cannot test at this moment.

Tomas

BTW, simply getting a 'non-read only' copy of the file is of little value if it does not include the original spread sheet data still intact. After all, I can do a simple 'Save As' now and accomplish everything except the retention of the original Part Family data, so if your 'procedure' accomplished the same thing, it would be a lot of effort for little gain, like killing flies with a sledgehammer, the flies are dead but the furniture is in shambles ;-)
