Guys - when i go file new ... the dialogue box that opens shows only the default files - part, assembly and drawing although I had installed a training disc which adds a few more templates and after adding the path for those templates in TOOLS -> OPTIONS -> FILE LOCATIONS.

These templates were there on a separate tab earlier but now I just dont see them anymore and even adding it doesnt help at all. Any suggestions and probable cause.

Are you using the Novice or advanced when you click File Open?

If it says in the bottom left corner Novice then your using the Advanced.

If your Tab is not there then you need to make sure your file locations is listing it.

You only get 3 choices under default templates but in the file new menu (advanced) it will list morethan those 3 if you have made new templates.

A sheet format (Title block) is not the same as a Template.

If all else fails try doing a repair on your install faq559-908

I was using Advance option and thanks Scott, it is working fine after I did a clean sweep and a re-install of the software.

vikdayal,
Scott is right in what he is saying, but this is another idea.
The location that you get your templates from is in a folder somewhere. Create another sub-folder under that one. In your case it would be “Training_Disk_Templates”. Now copy the Training templates from the original location to this sub-folder. Now when you create a new part, assembly or drawing you will see another tab in the dialog box “New SolidWorks Documents”.

Addendum:
I forgot to mention. In the System Options, under file Locations, under Sheet Formats you will have to add the location of the new templates folder.
I hope this helps.

Thanks Bradley that works good and that taught me that even if the files are in a child folder of the one folders that has been added to the file locations ni options - Solidworks would still find the files.
