Hello!
I'm performing a simulation of a tensile test using Abaqus 6.12. The aim of the simulation is to evaluate the damage mechanism of the material, and since the material breaks at a high amount of plastic strain (about 0.4-0.6 PEEQ) large deformations has to be introduced.
I model the material using a Young's modulus of 1.3 GPa, poissons ratio of 0.45 and define the plastic behaviour using basic Mises plasticity (defining tabular data). The model is a basic rectangular shell with no imperfections which is encastred in one end and a defined displacement of the upper edge of the same length as the original lenth of the model, i.e. the lenth of the model at the end is twice the original lenth
I have previously perfomed some analyzis using a one element model and have not had any problems with the magnitude of strain. However, now when a use a ten element model there are problems. Even if the solution converges the result is not to be trusted. There seems to be some sort of necking introduced, even though no damage definition has been defined.
I am completley clueless.. what can be the problem?
