Tension in bolts due to connected member bending

1) Sorting this out requires either knowing or assuming the distribution of compressive stress that develops beneath your base plate as a result of the applied base moment.

2) As for attempting the "knowing", one decent option is the version of Hilti's Profis program that allows for base plate flexibility rather than assuming perfect rigidity.

3) As for assuming, there are lots of ways to go about that:

a) Triangular distribution starting at the bolt. This would usually be my starting point for a situation like this.

b) Triangular distribution with maximized lever arm.

c) Rectangular, plastic distribution that is usually only valid if your tension anchors are capable of yielding without initiating concrete breakout.
