I am evaluating some 70 year old wood trusses that span 60 feet and are spaced 20 ft. top and bottom chords are 10" x 10". Tension splice in bottom chord consists of 1/2" steel plates with 1" lugs (one lug per plate on each side of joint). The design tensile force is 55000 lbs. In addition to steel plates it looks like there some kind of dovetail. Can anyone suggest some reference material which deals with this type of connection?

I provided some references for this question in the Structural Engineering Forum.

Is is usually not a good idea to put the same question in more than one forum at a time.

jheidt2543, I would love to see your library....

boo1,

I have to credit two of the volumns to my Dad. He was a 1951 UW-Madison grad and gave me his six volume set by Hool & Kinne. That started me off, but I haunt some of the dusty shelves in used book stores and find a gem every so often. If you might like the engineering books, but I think you'd really love the flyfishing section!

jheidt2543 - Glad that you posted about Hool & Kinne - have my uncle's Second Edition set. Have often wondered if I have all the volumes. Now I know that 6 volume set is complete.
Many Thanks [smile]

SlideRuleEra,

Just an aside, I had William Kinne, Jr. as a prof. for a course in contracts and another in construction back in 1970-71 at the UW-Madison. We never did get much of a chance to talk about his dad though.
