What is the terminology of NORMINAL COMPOSITION.

For example: ASTM A335 P11 (1.25Cr-0.5Mo). The Cr content is from 1.0% to 1.5%. What is the norminal composition of this material? 1.25%?

Review ASTM A751 for proper terminology pertaining to chemical analysis methods and definitions. Never heard of this term.

kissjxp;
The Cr-Mo alloys were developed years ago by boiler manufacturers, and to designate between alloy grades in this family, they used Cr and Mo mass concentrations that were within the min to max specified ranges as indicated in the appropriate material specifications (ASTM/ASME). That is it. If anything, nominal and not norminal, refers to the chemical composition as-measured.

Yes. It is nominal composition.

thanks
